Training Drills on Combos

Combo Drills

These drills are designed to take the Thai pads out of the training equation.  If one trains to much with Thai pads, one will start to develop the habit of kicking a pad rather than an opponent.

Combo training is an exchange of combos that two partners will execute when the other partner has finished.  Each practitioner should be wearing sparring gear.

Sparring gear includes:

Ø    Groin protector.

Ø    Mouth piece.

Ø    Gloves.

Ø    Shin guards.

Ø    Hand wraps (optional).

Ø    Ankle brace (optional).

The Thai clench is one of the most popular traits of Muay Thai.  These drills are designed to teach the student how to handle them selves during a clenching situation.  The Clench position will emphasize on the use of elbows, knees, and trips.

· Good source of cardio.

· Learn how to get into a clench position.

· Learn how to be calm in a clench position.

· Learning  the mechanics of the human body.

  1. Executing the clench position.
  2. Positioning opponent in a clench position.

Training Drills on Sparring

Sparring

After all the other drills are done properly and the students seem comfortable with what was taught so far, the sparring drill is the next step.

Sparring is used to collaborate what has been learned in the previous drills and apply it during a real confrontation.

Sparring gear includes:

Ø      Groin protector.

Ø      Mouth piece.

Ø      Gloves.

Ø      Shin guards.

Ø      Hand wraps (optional).

Ø      Ankle brace (optional).

· Body conditioning.

· Great source of cardio.

· Helps trains the body to be calm during a fight.

1:1 two minute rounds.

Note: After each round rotate opponents to avoid getting used to a certain opponents technique.

Training Circuit

When there are enough students (about 8 bodies or so) a training circuit can be formed.  A training circuit includes different posts.  One set of students will start off with holding the training gear while the other set of students’ works on their drills.  When all students have completed their rounds by going to all stations and completing all drills, the gear holding students swap out so they can work on their set of drills.

Training Circuit Stations:

Ø      Head kick station (Thai pads)

Ø      Reactionary station (Thai pads)

Ø      Elbows station (Thai pads)

Ø      Hand numbers (Thai pads or focus mitts)

Meditation is an important fundamental in any martial art or even in life.  There are many methods of meditation and it is something that is not easily taught from a web site.  It is highly advised to consult a teacher that is experienced in the area of meditation in order to get its full benefits.  There are documentation downloads that has various styles of meditation but remember there is no one ultimate style.
